The Rockland Central School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer
ABOUT THE DISTRICT
The Rockland Central School District is one of very few NYS school districts which have had a successful merger outcome based on the mutual approval of the Roscoe and Livingston Manor districts. As per state law the combined district is now eligible to receive a large amount of additional state aid over the next 10 years.
Rockland Elementary is a vibrant and student-centered learning community serving 305 children and 50 staff. With a robust full day UPK program serving as the foundation for the K-6 organization, the school honors its commitment to meeting diverse learner needs. Supplementing these classrooms is a strong special education program. Students in grades 5-6 participate in band and chorus as well as other after school programs.
The school is guided by active and collaborative committee that meet regularly to set goals, reflect on practice and implement strategies and policies that support student success. The school is thoughtfully adapting aligned curriculum programs to one content area each year.
Family and community partnerships are central to the school mission. It actively welcomes families and community members into the school through morning programs, holiday events and opportunities for parents and local experts to share their talents and experiences. With a shared past and new beginning, Rockland Elementary values and preserves its small school family-like atmosphere where students are known, supported and inspired to thrive.
The grades 7-12 high school offers a wide range of challenging courses to its 310 students. Included are 25 electives, 4 college level courses, 1 Advanced Placement, 2 accelerated courses and local CTL programs.
Activity highlights include the Future Farmers of America, Family Career and Future Leaders of America and the Interact Club in which Rockland high school students compete internationally. Their Yearbook Club has been nationally recognized as being outstanding.
The Rockland athletic program supports competition sports at the varsity, junior varsity and modified levels. Specific opportunities involve football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, track and cheerleading.
The district has been very active in seeking grant money to support its students. A very high level of success took place in the Sullivan County 180 Healthier Generation Competition in 2023. These high results were realized again in 2025. Many grants have been applied for, and the district is waiting to learn of the outcomes.
As a merged school district, all contracts were required by the state to be re-negotiated. That process is continuing.
THE COMMUNITY
The Rockland Central School District spans more than 260 square miles across 3 counties and 9 towns. New York State Route 17 is the major highway for the district. The western edge of the beautiful Catskill Mountains forms the northern boundary of Rockland. It has a central location to the major cities of New York (2.5 hours), Albany (1.5 hours) and Syracuse (2 hours). Important industries include Resorts World and the Center for Discovery.
Recreational opportunities abound for residents to hike, fish, and ski. The Garnet Health Medical Center is an excellent hospital facility.
Higher education providers include the community colleges of Sullivan County, Orange County and Ulster County. Four year undergraduate and higher graduate courses can be found at SUNY New Paltz.
Airline transportation can be secured at the international airports of Stewart, Newark, NJ, JFK and Albany.
