Rockland Central School District Director of Special Services Lauren Nielsen has taken on the additional role of interim superintendent effective July 1.
Mrs. Nielsen has served the Rockland Central School district since 2009, when she began as a special education teacher and social studies teacher at Livingston Manor Middle High School. She began her role as director of Special Services in 2018. She had previously served as a middle/high school special education teacher at Sullivan County BOCES.
She earned her bachelor of arts in education at Mount Saint Mary College, her master of science in literacy from Mercy College and a master of science in educational leadership from Long Island University, and holds a School District Leadership Certificate from New York State.
“During my time as interim superintendent I am committed to facilitating a seamless transition that promotes student success, while strengthening the partnership between families, schools and the community where communication and collaboration are supported,” Mrs. Nielsen said.
Her appointment is through Aug. 31, unless it is terminated by the board before then. The search for a superintendent is ongoing.
