On July 1, Rockland Central School District will welcome Janet Dymond as the district’s school business, finance, operations and personnel administrator.
Ms. Dymond comes to Rockland after serving as the assistant school business manager at Otsego-Northern Catskills BOCES. This is her second career, previously working as a librarian and library director in state prisons and public libraries.
“I became a school business official (SBO) because I value education and understand the importance that sound financial management practices have in delivering high-quality educational opportunities for students,” she said. “SBOs are stewards of public resources. In this position, I can serve the local community responsibly, ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively while at the same time contributing to the growth and development of young people.”
Ms. Dymond has deep ties to Sullivan County, having graduated from Tri-Valley Central School.
“I love the area and am appreciative of the solid footing that my small, rural school district provided me that has allowed me to find success,” she said. “I want to be a part of a collaborative team that brings the Rockland community together to create strong educational programs, where students and staff can thrive, and collaboration with community members is the norm.”
Ms. Dymond earned her Master of Science in Information Systems degree in information science and policy from SUNY Albany, and her school district business leader certificate of advanced study from the College of St. Rose/Russell Sage.
As the school business, finance, operations and personnel administrator, Ms. Dymond, will oversee the Business Office/Finance, Personnel/Human Resources, Facilities (Maintenance & Custodial), Food Service, Technology and Transportation departments. She will take over for Mrs. Kathyrn Blackman, who was serving as an interim business official after Mr. Jeff Froelich left the position in March.
“I aim to foster transparent communication with the community, support our staff and students and ensure that every financial decision aligns with Rockland’s vision for success,” she said. “I am committed to serving the Rockland community with integrity and dedication.”
She visited Rockland in late May to meet with administrators, faculty, staff and students. “
“All of the staff and students that I met were very welcoming and offered great insight into their departments,” Ms. Dymond said. “I appreciate everyone that took time out of their day to meet with me.”
In her spare time, Ms. Dymond, who has 13 siblings, enjoys reading and spending time with her pet tortoise, Dimitri.
