Rockland BOE approves budget proposal
The Rockland Central School District Board of Education approved the proposed 2026-27 budget at its meeting on April 21.
The proposed $33,974,076 budget increases spending $1,839,096, or 5.72%, with a tax levy of $15,625,135, an increase of $669,579, or 4.48%.
More details on the budget will be available on the district’s budget webpage in the coming days. A budget newsletter will also be mailed to district households following the budget hearing, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, in the Rockland Middle/High School auditorium. The budget vote will be from noon to 8 p.m. in the new gyms of the Rockland Middle/High School in Livingston Manor and Rockland Elementary in Roscoe.
Also at the April 21 meeting, the board approved the abolishment of four teaching positions—two elementary, a secondary physical education and a secondary social studies—as part of cost-saving measures taken to balance the budget.
The board also approved the tenure of 11 staff members, and accepted the resignation of three others.

The board will also meet next week in the second round interviews to continue the search for the district’s next superintendent. The meetings will be called into session then are expected to enter immediately into executive session. The meetings are scheduled for 6 p.m. April 27 at Northern Farmhouse Pasta in Roscoe; on April 28 at Northern Farmhouse Pasta following the 5:30 p.m. meeting at the Elementary School to vote on the Sullivan BOCES budget and election; and 6 p.m. April 29 at the Rockland Middle/High School Auditorium in Livingston Manor.
