Rockland Central School District Board of Education approved the extension of Mrs. Lauren Nielsen’s contract as interim superintendent during its Aug. 31 meeting.
The search for a permanent superintendent is ongoing.
Mrs. Nielsen has served the Rockland Central School district since 2009, when she began as a special education teacher and social studies teacher at Livingston Manor Middle/High School. She began her current role as director of Special Services in 2018. She had previously served as a middle/high school special education teacher at Sullivan County BOCES. 
She earned her bachelor of arts in education at Mount Saint Mary College, her master of science in literacy from Mercy College and a master of science in educational leadership from Long Island University, and holds a School District Leadership Certificate from New York State.
The contract goes through Oct. 31 and may be terminated immediately upon resolution by the board of education or the appointment of a permanent superintendent of schools.
“As the search for a new superintendent continues, I will continue to promote student success and work to strengthen the partnership between families, schools and the community,” Mrs. Nielsen said.
