Superintendent search underway at Rockland
The search for Rockland Central School District’s next superintendent continues with the assistance of the New York State Leadership Group. This is an opportunity for a strong school leader to help guide the future of the newly merged district.
The process is being led by the seven members of the Rockland CSD Board of Education, who are collaborative and committed to the success of Rockland’s students and the community’s needs, and Interim Superintendent Keith Lewis. Mr. Lewis was appointed by the board in November following the retirement of Mr. John Evans, who led the former Livingston Manor and Roscoe School Districts through the merger. Mr. Lewis will serve in the role through the end of June, when the newly appointed superintendent is expected to start on July 1, 2026
The ideal candidate will be an exceptional educational leader with a proven record of administrative accomplishments and must provide evidence of achievement in the areas of student learning and written/oral communication skills. Since this is a newly merged district, familiarity with the planning necessary to strengthen the merger would be very beneficial.
In addition to these qualities, the Rockland Board of Education is also looking for the following personal and professional characteristics in its next school leader:
- Ability to clearly identify problems and develop effective solutions
- A person of unquestioned integrity
- Shares credit for successes, accepts responsibility for failures
- Evidence of success in the implementation of effective district financial practices
- Possess the courage to make difficult decisions
Applications must be submitted by March 27, 2026, and the first round of interviews will be held April 13-17, 2026. After identifying a handful of candidates, a second round of interviews will be held April 27-May 1, 2026.
This is a confidential search, meaning the names of all candidates will be known only by the board as they go through the hiring process. Only the successful candidate will be named publicly after a signed contract between the parties is completed and board approved.
More information about the application process can be found on the Rockland CSD website.
